Troubleshooting

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

The following information is critical for understanding switch operation and what is happening in the electrical system. Before inspecting, testing, or modifying any wiring, always follow proper safety procedures in accordance with ABYC standards. De-energize circuits when possible, verify the absence of voltage with appropriate test equipment, and use properly rated tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect yourself and the vessel. Failure to follow these practices may result in damage, injury, or fire.

Using a voltmeter will be helpful.

Technical Note – Diagnostic Testing Power-probe style testers may not provide an accurate ground reference at the switch harness, which can lead to misinterpreting circuit behavior and delaying proper troubleshooting. For accurate diagnosis, ALWAYS VERIFY BOTH POWER AND GROUND AT THE SWITCH PLUG USING A PROPERLY RATED VOLTMETER (DMM) IN ACCORDANCE WITH ABYC ELECTRICAL PRACTICES.
