Garmin Marine Electronics FAQ
What is the difference between Garmin ECHOMAP and GPSMAP?
ECHOMAP chartplotters are built for recreational fishing, with simple menus, built in sonar, and screens from 6 to 12 inches. GPSMAP chartplotters are aimed at offshore and serious anglers, with larger displays, radar support, and more networking options for a full helm system.
What is the difference between ECHOMAP UHD and ECHOMAP UHD2?
ECHOMAP UHD2 is the newer generation. It adds multiband GPS for better position accuracy, wireless sharing of sonar, waypoints, and routes with other UHD2 units, and Garmin Navionics+ charts on many models. ECHOMAP UHD is the earlier generation and is a good value choice, especially as a remanufactured unit.
Does my Garmin chartplotter come with a transducer?
It depends on the model. Many ECHOMAP and GPSMAP units are sold both with and without a transducer, so check the product title. A unit listed as "no transducer" or "display only" is a good fit if you already own a compatible Garmin transducer.
Which Garmin chartplotters work with LiveScope?
Most current ECHOMAP UHD, ECHOMAP UHD2, ECHOMAP Ultra, and GPSMAP models support Garmin LiveScope live scanning sonar. LiveScope 2 HD connects directly to a compatible chartplotter with no black box, while earlier LiveScope systems use a separate sonar module. Check the compatibility list on each product page before ordering.
Can I use Garmin LiveScope for ice fishing?
Yes. The LiveScope 2 HD Ice Fishing Transducer is made for the ice, with a flexible cold weather cable, a 0 degree shaft mount, and automatic shutoff when it comes out of the water. A compatible chartplotter, battery, and ice pole are sold separately.
What does remanufactured mean?
Garmin remanufactured units are refurbished through Garmin and sold at a lower price than new, with the same features as the new model. Each remanufactured product is clearly labeled in its title.
Can I install a new Garmin display in my old dash cutout?
Sometimes. Garmin makes adapter plates for some upgrades, such as GMI 20 to GMI 40 or GPSMAP 9x2 to 9x3. For anything else, our custom dash panels are cut to fit your exact Garmin unit and your boat's make and model, so you get a clean install without patching old holes.
What is the Garmin GMI 40?
The GMI 40 is a 4.3 inch touchscreen marine instrument that shows wind, speed, depth, heading, engine, and fuel data from your compatible devices. It connects through NMEA 2000 and Garmin BlueNet and is available alone or in wind and sail packs.
Do you offer free shipping on Garmin electronics?
Yes. Orders over $150 ship free.
